Local festivals may be eligible for a grant under the Local Community Festivals Grant Awards Scheme, which has been announced by Galway City Council.

Organisations planning events in their areas in the city in the coming months may be eligible for a grant under this scheme.

In previous years, small, local festivals around the city have received support to involve and engage local people to contribute to a sense of community in old and new estates and areas.

In 2017, events and festivals including ones in Doughiska,  ,Tirellan and Westside received funding. A total fund of €8,000 is available this year and interested local groups are invited to apply.

Grants will not be awarded for occasional or “once-off” events such as musical performances, national day celebrations or sports days and this scheme is quite specifically designed to support small-scale local events organised by local people in 2018.

The application form is available from Galway City Council and online at http://www.galwaycity.ie/application-forms .

Completed application forms should be returned by Friday, 8th June to the Community & Culture Department of Galway City Council and decisions on grant-aid will be made in June 2018.
