Plans for a new Primary Care Centre in Oranmore are looking tenuous, with a deadline to be issued before the project will have to go back to square one.

Planning was first granted for a new primary care centre for the construction of a primary care centre on the south side of Oranmore back in 2021.

However, the project has been in limbo since 2022 with the developer stating that changing market conditions had made the original deal no longer commercially viable.

At the most recent meeting of the Regional Health Forum County Cllr Liam Carroll asked about the latest communications between the HSE and the developer.

He also asked if an alternative site for the primary care centre needs to be secured, and what the timescale for its delivery might be.

The HSE said that a formal letter with deadlines to proceed was to be issued after Easter. If those deadlines are not met then the current terms for the project will be rescinded.

At that point, they would proceed with alternative options and readvertise for the project.

“If the HSE as is likely readvertises the location again it will be open to developers to put forward any sites they deem appropriate and such proposals will be then evaluated in accordance with the award criteria.”

“Should a bid which includes an alternative site which does not have the appropriate planning permission be successful then a new planning application would have to be lodged.”

“Given the uncertainty surrounding the ultimate solution, it is very difficult to predict a timescale at the moment but it is hoped that the timescale for the project to be completed will become a lot clearer later this year.”
